Boys Basketball Wins First Home Game

January 9, 2018

On Friday, January 5th, the SDA boys basketball team hosted the Del Norte Nighthawks for their first home game of the season. The Mustangs won 54-40 in a fast paced and defensive minded game that excited the crowd until the final buzzer.

The Mustangs came ready to play and started the game strong, accumulating a ten point lead early in the second quarter. The attack was lead by junior Baylor Brimmer who had an impressive statline of 14 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks. Junior Travis Snider also had a good game with 16 points.

The game continued and SDA extended their lead to nearly 20 points halfway through the fourth quarter. However, in the final minutes of the game, Del Norte started to gain momentum, scoring a few consecutive baskets off turnovers by the Mustangs. SDA quickly regained control, and finished the game with a 14 point lead.

This non-league game was more than just another win for the Mustangs, as their annual matchup against Del Norte has resulted in a loss every year since the 2011-12 season. It is a sign of a bright future for an SDA team that features a talented Junior class and has a record of 8 wins and 7 losses so far in the year.

SDA continues its season Friday, January 12th, when freshman, JV, and varsity all play at home against Rancho Buena Vista High School.
