Boys Water Polo: SDA vs Mission Hills
September 21, 2016
The SDA boys water polo team brought home two wins yesterday against Mission Hills High School. Varsity closed off the match with a score of 11-5, and Junior Varsity won 11-4.
Both matches started under gray skies that dumped copious amounts of rain into the pool and onto the players. However, the San Dieguito Mustangs carried on unfazed, claiming a 5-0 lead by the end of the first quarter, and one of 7-0 by halftime. SDA sophomore Matheus Gensler scored multiple goals, as did juniors Nate Conger and Sam Dumont
Although both teams were frustrated with what could have been considered shoddy refereeing, they pushed on nonetheless. The second half yielded almost double the points for the Mustangs, and five goals for Mission Hills.
As Mission Hills didn’t have a novice team, the novice and junior varsity teams from San Dieguito were combined into what was quite a large team.
Junior Varsity players junior Rokas Veitas and sophomore Connor Ellis were quick to score goals when the match began, and by the end of the first half the Mustangs were up nine points with a score of SDA 10, Mission Hills 1.
Although SDA only scored one more goal courtesy of #8, sophomore Evan Butler, they finished with a winning score of 11-4.
