In It for the Win?
September 7, 2016
Imagine being a die-hard fan for a sports team that has performed terribly for your entire life. For Padre and Charger fans, it should be very easy considering we have never won a World Series or Super Bowl. Now, imagine that team has so much success that they are the best in the entire league. For Cubs fans, this is becoming a reality.
The Cubs haven’t appeared in a World Series since 1945. For sports fans, that’s a long time for a team to be unsuccessful. And the crazy thing is, they didn’t even win that year; they lost 4-3 in the series. The last time they won was in 1908. But at least they have won a world series, right Padre fans?
Now after years and years of terrible seasons, they have finally been able to pick up a bunch of young talent, such as Kris Bryant, and craft a super team. We got a preview of this last year after they finished third in the league, but since then they have improved even more.
The Cubs are the first place team in the entire league by seven games. After 148 games, it is impressive to keep that type of lead. And now, it is almost time for the postseason. Last year, they played the New York Mets to go to the World Series and lost to them 0-4 in the series. But this year, they are looking even stronger.
I’m hoping they don’t go into a hitting slump and miss pitching again like they did last year in the NLCS. All I know is, once postseason rolls around, I know who I’ll be rooting for.
