Varsity Boys Water Polo Dominates First Game

September 2, 2016

SDA Boys Water Polo kicked off the season right with an unbelievable win against Pacific Ridge last night. The bleachers were full of enthusiastic parents, siblings, and SDA students excited to witness the first game of the season featuring the school’s new varsity team. The boys won 21 to 8, led by the game’s top scorer, sophomore Matheus Gensler.

Gensler, who played the position of “set”, stationed on the two-meter marker directly in front of the opponent’s goal, scored a total of six points, leading his teammates in offense.  When asked about the success of his first game, Gensler felt that he and his teammates “played together” and successfully demonstrated the “team chemistry” they have been working so hard to develop throughout the summer and beginning of the season.

According to Gensler, if the varsity team continues to play with the passion, strategy, and drive that they have been, the boys will be true contenders for CIF this season.  Other noteworthy players include senior Sam Dumont and junior Carl Winner, each scoring at least 3 points for the team.

Members of the Stang Gang, photographers from journalism and yearbook, and a multitude of family members came out to support the varsity team, and the noise and energy level was through the roof.  The chemistry between the boys was undeniable.  According to Gensler, the team to beat in the division this year is Classical Academy.
