Nothin’ But Net at the Basketball Game
The Mustang boys’ basketball team beat the Pacific Ridge Firebirds, 71-39, in the first home game of the season yesterday, Jan. 13.
The Mustangs led all four quarters of the game. By the end of the first half, San Dieguito had 10 fouls while Pacific Ridge had eight. This showed just how aggressive the game was.
A large crowd backing the Mustangs throughout the game helped foster the lead in which the Mustangs already had. The crowd roared with each basket made and sat with anticipation through the free throws. They cheered as the Mustangs stopped many of the drives by the Firebirds.
At halftime, as San Dieguito was up 26-11, a dance troop named Lost and Found took center stage pumping the crowd up.
Contrary to the scoreboard, the game was a very intense one full of scrappy plays. With the win in sight, the Mustang coach let all the players on the team get an opportunity to set foot on their home court. It was the first time on the home court for the two freshmen, twins Yarin and Ron Arbib, and a last first home game for the two seniors, Garrett Stone and Sean Hanlon.
James Bert had an outstanding game leading the team in both points and rebounds. He has 17 point and 8 rebounds. Overall, it was a great start to the season that leaves the fans hopeful for a season full of wins.
