The girls’ varsity soccer team suffered a 4-1 loss against San Marcos on Wednesday, Jan 30. This loss left San Marcos the only undefeated team in the Avocado East league and the Mustangs with an overall record of 5-7-1.
Within the first 20 minutes of the game, San Dieguito was already down 2-0. Team captain and senior Genesis Castrellon said that she felt that “they weren’t well deserved goals” and that “it was error on our part.”
San Marcos scored their third goal with very little time left in the first half, and the Mustangs continued to trail the Knights into the second half, with sophomore Miriam Bloom scoring their only goal with two minutes left in the game. San Marcos then scored their fourth and final goal a mere ten seconds later, only further driving home the point that they had the Mustangs beat. Castrellon said that the Mustangs struggled because the team was missing “four key players,” making them low-staffed in this game.
