Mustang Musings: New Year’s Resolutions

As 2014 is sent underway, the Mustang commemorated the New Year by asking students about their New Years’ resolutions, and how well they have been sticking to them. Among the responses were the goals to eat healthier, do well in school, take over the world, and overall self-improvement. Whether or not their goals will be adhered to will be up to the students who make them, and so far, there has been a mix of deal breakers and deal makers.

 

“Wish I could help but I gave those up 20 years ago!” – Art Teacher Neal Glasgow

 

“Mine is to eat healthier and to not make kids cry. So far I am doing pretty good with the first one, but I am not really sure about the second one” – Biology teacher Michael Santos

 

“My New Year’s resolution is to do better in school.” – Sophomore Megan Scherer

 

“To do what I do, but do it better.” – Sophomore Fletcher Mitchell

 

“My New Year’s Resolution is to make a significant change in someone else’s life.” – Sophomore Madison Psichogios

 

“I’m not drinking soda and I have kept it up.” – Sophomore Collin Stewart

“Nope, I don’t have one because I always have people talking about how if you want to change something about yourself, why not whenever? Why New Year’s? If you have a resolution, just do it.” – Senior Ari Chrillak

“I wanted to write more, and I have.” – Sophomore Kevin Wells

 

“To turn off Netflix and go outside. And no I didn’t stick to it as in I’m still inside watching Netflix.” – Junior Allison Sakihara

 

“I didn’t make one. I just try to make a resolution each day, just being a good person, or volleyball stuff. I’m corny.” – Junior Sara Hyndman

 

“My New Year’s resolution is to go on more adventures, and yes, I have followed through with it.” – Senior Jack Boyce

 

“[I resolve] to go surfing at least three times a week. It’s been hard, but so far I’ve adhered to it.” – Senior Brittany Adams

“I don’t have New Years’ resolutions. I think you should have resolutions throughout the year that aren’t based on one day.” – Senior Kendra Brust

 

“Honestly, I have the same resolutions every year. One is to drink more water but I don’t really know how I can drink even more than I do now.” – Senior Irena Weaver

 

“To eat just a little healthier. Not giving up stuff but just more greens. Still In’N’Out. Also to try to be nicer to people I don’t know and be less sarcastic. So far I’ve kept them.” – Senior Mimi Kennedy

“My resolution was to be a better person. I plan on sticking with it.” – Sophomore Margot Leach

 

“My New Year’s resolution was to eat healthier and spend more time with my dad. And I have kept to it so far.” – Sophomore Will Fletcher

 

“I made the resolution to just make healthier choices, and, yeah, I think I can say I’ve stuck with it so far.” – Senior Onna Goodsell

 

“I didn’t have a New Year’s resolution, because I believe that life is lived day to day, it’s an evolution, and having a set of goals for too long can be detrimental.” – Senior Matt Hutton

“My resolution is to be more confident and learn to appreciate myself. I am still working on it, but when I make a mistake, I don’t get as down on myself.” – Sophomore Adriana Martinez
