I have been mourning the loss of a great friend, hour lunch on late starts. I received this tragic news through a heartless e-mail – an e-mail! – saying that there has been a new change to the late start days. No sit down or get together explaining why hour lunch has passed. All I wanted was an explanation and a say in this but it is too late.
I went through the five stages of grief in a matter of seconds – denial , anger, bargaining, depression, and finally acceptance; however I will always miss my great friend. I will miss the anxious feeling during 2nd period knowing that the day is about to get even shorter because of hour lunch. I will miss the adrenaline rushing through me as I try to get to the student parking lot to get out of there the quickest. I will miss the time spent together. Spending the time celebrating friend’s birthdays, making the people duck in the truck when the cops are spotted, and taking those confusing shortcuts and end up getting lost, those great memories with hour lunch will never be forgotten.
The time reserved for hour lunch on late start days has been replaced by extra time in the morning. I honestly don’t care for the extra time that they give us because I would rather have a long break from school. The extra time doesn’t make a difference either because I have to go through the grueling wake-up process like I already do on regular days.
The death of hour lunch on late starts has been heartbreaking. That glorious hour will be missed. RIP hour lunch.
