I have never understood why some people freak out so much when anyone brings up the subject of gay rights. Love is love. Why should it matter if your classmate, friend, or child is not naturally attracted to the opposite sex when the most important thing is their happiness? When people were voting on Prop 8, the proposition to ban gay marriages in California, I couldn’t see why people would vote yes. I still don’t know why. It makes no sense. So a kid has two dads, or two moms – so what? Is that making you cheat on your spouse or somehow hurting your marriage? Some religions and Prop 8 have been the two main forces banning gay marriages. No one wants to go against what they believe in, but gay marriage isn’t making people go against their religion, or commiting a crime. They aren’t hurting other people or setting bad examples. It’s not like homosexuals are some other species – they’re human. We all want to be happy. Why keep this unalienable right from them? What happened to the pursuit of happiness? I think that every human being is equal and deserves equal rights, even in marriage, and when every person has those rights, then there shall be true equality.
