This year’s Chalk Art contest will take place on March 7 during homeroom. The theme is to “recreate a masterpiece or interpret a famous work of art either literally or figuratively,” according to the basic rules.

“It can be a creation of the Mona Lisa with your homeroom teacher as the face, or some glorious picture of your homeroom teacher doing something, or something at SDA. It’s really like influenced by some other work of art or some style and then recreating it into your own personal interpretation with your homeroom,” said junior Jason Kesler.

According to Assistant Principal Jeanne Jones more than 10 homerooms are participating this year. The rules are simple. Students must bring their own chalk, keep the art school appropriate, and be creative.

At the beginning of homeroom on Tuesday, homerooms will be assigned a concrete square on the pathway in front of the PAC.

Homerooms will be judged based on their spirit, quality of art, and artistic merit, said Kesler. The participating homerooms receive 200 points each.

“We want to make the whole area of the PAC look cool and that’s also what we are looking for,” said Kesler.

Homeroom teachers must sign up with Jones by Thursday, March 2.
