Famous Latin American Singer Dies at Age 66

Sunday Aug. 28 was a sad day for many: iconic Mexican singer and LGBT icon , Juan Gabriel, died at 66 of a heart attack. His death affected many just as his music did. Songs such as “No Tengo Dinero,”
“Hasta Que Te Conocí” and many more both made his career and touched the hearts of fans everywhere.
As a musician, he sang tales of love and heartbreak, and was able to revolutionize Latin American music as a whole by challenging mainstream Latin American music. After an extravagant performance swathed in blue silk and sequins, Juan Gabriel passed away in Santa Monica despite singing and dancing the night before; fans everywhere are heartbroken. After the announcement was made, his body was transported from the United States to México. Latin American radio and television stations reported fervently on the transportation process.
Radio hosts gave detailed reports about the location of the body. Listeners were informed of when the body was on its way to the airport, once it was loaded onto the plane, and when the second the plane landed.
The president of México, Enrique Peña Nieto, offered to open the doors of the Mexico’s National Fine Arts Institute to host a memorial for the popular artist and showcase the body, much to the excitement of the heartbroken public. Fans were outraged though, when Juan Gabriel’s family made the decision to cremate his body, according to BBC Mundo.
Juan Gabriel will be missed and the public will always have “Amor Eterno” for this music legend who inspired many to break social norms and be who they want to be.
