NHS College Night
Seniors from the National Honor Society shared their experience with college applications Wednesday night in the Learning Commons during the annual National Honors Society College Night.
The dozen or so parents mingled while the NHS students prepared their presentation. Senior Nate Newman started things by introducing counselor Ann Nebolon and NHS advisor Kevin Witt who shared their thoughts on letters of recommendation. Some of the steps they recommended were to plan ahead and make constant check-ups with your teachers writing letters for you. Guests were welcomed with free bagels from Panera Bread.
College night is meant to help incoming juniors and parents of juniors understand and prepare for the college application process. Senior Rebecca Lim said, “It’s mostly like an information panel where students will speak about their experiences.”
During the presentation, parents had the opportunity to ask questions to any of the senior members. Small labeled signs sitting on tables worked as directions for parents who had more specific questions regarding things like preparing for ACT/SAT or college interviews. At the smaller tables parents and students could enjoy a face to face conversation with someone who had experienced the process.
National Honor Society is a club on campus for juniors and seniors that have a goal of achieving academic success. The club requires a minimum GPA of 3.8 (not weighted) and is open to enrollment at the start of the school year.
