Farewell Friedrichs
Kathryn Friedrichs, SDA’s American sign language teacher, is another member of the staff that we will be saying goodbye to the campus this year. After working for 12 years as a teacher at San Dieguito, she will be taking up the position of assistant principal at Oak Crest Middle School. “I thought I could affect more kids’ lives this way and just needed to make a move for me personally,” Friedrichs said.
Although she is looking forward to her new position, Friedrichs states that she will miss many aspects of SDA. “I’m going to miss seeing all the diversity around campus, that every kid has somewhere to fit in here,” she said. “I’m really going to miss my ASL classes and my Honors Society club. I also think I’ll miss teaching, and actually being in a classroom with the kids.”
After having taught in a classroom for so long, the switch to assistant principal will be a big change. “I’m sure I’ll be very busy,” Friedrichs said. “I know I’m looking forward to taking on new projects, supporting teachers, and supporting kids.”
“I hope everything that I’ve learned here I can bring to Oak Crest,” she said. “The biggest thing I think at SDA is that the staff and teachers really do love kids and want to be with kids and support kids in the right way and that’s what I hope I could continue to do at Oak Crest.”
