Extracurricular Classes Now Offered
February 4, 2015
After a year and a half in the works, the first three extracurricular classes are debuting at SDA, all starting on Feb. 10. The after-school classes, known as “Enrichment Courses,” give a chance for teachers to teach subjects outside of their in-school curriculum, as well as allowing students to explore a wide array of academic and non-academic areas. Students will not be graded in these courses and no registration or fee is necessary.
In addition, there will be more after school classes offered in six to eight weeks.
Classes Offered:
“Engineering and Design in Science” will be taught by Jocelyn Broemmelsiek in room 50 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The class will cover different aspects of bioengineering and biotechnology, including the designs of experiments to test solutions of real world problems and developing a synthetic organism.
“‘Growing Up is Hard to do’: How to Deal with Adult Stuff” deals with how to face the many challenges of adult life, including relationships, jobs, and finances. Blaze Newman will teach the class from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in room 35.
“Art From the Heart” is an open studio hour (and a half) from 3:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. where all students can come and create any kind of art. Students can collaborate with others to work on a project or learn techniques in groups. Kajsa Medak will head the class in the Painting Room, room 61.
