Are You Smarter than a Teacher?

Taking their seats at the ends of the table ASB teacher Rod Keillor and senior Powers Berry eyed each other nervously. The competition began and the first history question was asked. A few moments later, Keillor slapped the table and gave his answer. An apologetic reply came from the host informing him that his answer was incorrect.
Seconds later, Berry started to scribble something on his sheet of paper. Slamming his hand against the top of the table, he then held up his paper revealing his answer to the host.
Being the last week of Manly Month of March, each lunch day was filled with all sorts of unique activities. Students gathered in front of the Performing Arts Center on Tuesday at lunch in anticipation to watch students and teachers face off in “Are You Smarter than a Teacher?”
The sets of competitions included Berry versus Keillor, sophomore Zach Sippel versus math teacher Kristen Huy, sophomore Karla Killen versus Spanish teacher John West, and senior Jackson Wagner versus a student volunteer from the crowd. Each set of four questions for each pair of one-on-one competitors included history, English, math, and science. In each competition a student came out victorious, winning a small plastic trophy.
As a Spanish teacher competing in the math section of the competition, West found it tough going against a sophomore student. “I was good in math in high school but when you haven’t done equations in a million years it’s like asking a history question 30 years later; it’s hard,” said West.
