When the Japanese exchange students came to stay in America for a week they found that things here are very different from where they live. One thing that they noticed is the freedom students have at SDA; students here can choose from many different electives that suit their interests and can, for the most part, wear what they want to. But many schools in other countries don’t have so many choices when it comes to classes. The exchange students got to observe classes that aren’t available at their school and seemed to like what they saw: “We don’t have a fashion club at my school. I like that SDA has one,” said exchange student Shuka Kanemoto. And many schools in Japan require uniforms to be worn every day, so the students there are used to not able to dress up freely. Trying American food for the first time was, of course, another experience the exchange students enjoyed. They tried some of the favorite meals of locals in California. “I tried tacos. They were very delicious,” said Kanemoto, “I also tried Dr. Pepper for the first time. At first I thought that they made it from pepper. It was very delicious.” Students enjoyed other foods as well. Mana Asano said, “I thought American potatoes were really good.”
