Cupids in the form of Bowling Club members swarmed classrooms during homeroom on Thursday, Feb. 14: Valentine’s Day.
They did not shoot arrows of love at students. Instead, they delivered cards, light-up heart necklaces, miniature blow-up beach balls, and plush bears. “We wanted to make people who wouldn’t normally celebrate Valentine’s Day feel special, too, even if they aren’t in a relationship,” said Bowling Club President senior Dhyana Buckley.
The gram program was organized by the Bowling Club, which began selling grams on Feb. 6 in front of The Mosaic.
The money from the grams will go towards making bowling shirts for the club. “Everything went really great. We definitely made profit, and the money left over after we make the shirts will go to charity,” said club Vice President senior Joy Liesegang.
The club was successful in raising feelings of warmth and affection as well as funds. After reading his science-fiction-themed gram from a group calling themselves his ‘fan club,’ senior Ross Trundler said, “It’s nice! They said they would take over the world with me.”
Many grams were sent with humorous intentions. “I’d write stuff like ‘I think you’re really hot, come meet me in Senior Court at lunch,’ and send it anonymously to my friends, just to mess with them,” said junior Alynne Powers.
Those who didn’t participate in the heart-shaped cheer were regretful. “Valentine’s grams are sweet. I wish I’d given my friends some to show them how much I love them,” said junior Julianna Forrest.
The Bowling Club, which is active in supporting charities as well as enjoying the sport, continues to be active in bringing SDA closer together. “For our next event we’re hoping to do another Student Teacher Bowling game,” said Liesegang.
