As the chitter chatter of formal rings in everyone’s ears, the anticipation for next year’s formal already makes its way into your already stressed, teenage brain. Daydreams of your dress, tux, hair and date have already taken over your fantasies for the big night a year away. In your hopes to capture the perfect guy’s attention, the question lingers: HOW can I ask him? As you try to keep your mind in control, some help from this year’s formal goers may ease your struggles for the perfect way to ask your date.
Junior Sarah Dale chose a day to have teachers, friends, and random students hand her boyfriend, Parker Hayes, baseballs which each had a different letter of formal written on the ball. Then, after school she personally handed him the last baseball with a question mark.
Senior Erika Des Jardin gave her boyfriend, junior Sean Hislop, a water bottle with a fish inside. On the water bottle was a note that said: “Out of all the fish in the sea, will you go to formal with me?”
Junior Cassidy Mayeda, and school president, placed a life size fork at the ‘fork in the road’ on Levante with a bright sign spelling “FORKMAL?” for Junior Zach Stevens.
Sophomore Pia Haro handed Alex McAdoo a plate of sushi which spelled out ‘FORMAL?’
Junior Keri Jucha painted senior Justin Johnson a picture in their painting class that said “Of all the surfers in the sea, will you go to formal with me?”
Junior Laura King filled Senior Zach Knox’s room with balloons. Attached to each balloon was a photo of the couple’s past memory, and on the back of each photo was a description of the event; attached to the last balloon was a blank photo, with a description on the back which said “Formal 2013?”
Senior Rachel Bernstein tied a stuffed animal pig to a floating balloon and added a note “When pigs fly, will you go to formal with me?” She left the balloons at Brian Abram’s car and happily received a yes.
Senior Lauren Shumate mowed “formal?” into her lawn, then took Senior Grant Pocious upstairs, when he looked out the window he was ecstatic to find “formal” engraved in the lawn below.
Junior Sarah Schwab used Google to translate the words “will you go to formal with me” into French; while playing the ukulele she sang out in French to Ross Cooper. Although it translated wrong, Ross knew what she meant and gleefully accepted.
