Students of participating homerooms sang their hearts out during karaoke in the Mosaic, a Homeroom Olympics event on Mar. 27 and 29.
About half of SDA’s homerooms participated. They were able to choose from about 35 different songs selected by juniors Lindsey Rowland and Laurel Sorenson, the organizers of the event. “Nobody won this event; it was a tie between [English teacher Justin] Conn’s homeroom and [English teacher Melissa] Barry’s homeroom. The contest was judged by the participants dance moves, theatricality, and basically how into it the crowd got. We didn’t judge based on the singing talent,” said Rowland.
Based on their wild applause and cheering, a highlight for the audience was biology teacher Michael Santos and his booty bounce. Students and teachers alike went crazy for the dance moves. Another crowd favorite was math teacher Paul Brice’s rendition of Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody.”
“I didn’t really decide to sing for my homeroom. Kyle [Kitner] just pulled me into it. I wasn’t all for it at first, but it’s his senior year and I only had one chance to do this with him so i decided to go for it,” said freshman Jenna Kitner referring to her senior brother.
