Below are interviews from the 2012-2013 ASB candidates. The school-wide nominating convention where the candidates will be making their speeches will be held on Friday, December 9th in the gym during an extended homeroom.
Questions-
1.) What makes you unique, as a candidate/what will you bring, once elected?
2.) Main motto, quote, slogan, etc
Senior:
President: Bree Lundgren
1.) •Reason # 10: I love helping others. And will be determined to make good changes within the school by including everyone. •Reason # 9: I will work really hard along with everyone else to have an agreeable input to make a difference with our school events. •Reason # 8: I will give up my 16 year allegiance to the Patriots to become a San Diego Chargers fan! And any other California fan you would like me to be. •Reason # 7: I enjoy hanging out with sophomores, juniors, and seniors •Reason # 6: Even more wild, I enjoy spending my time with freshmen just as much. •Reason # 5: I promise I’ll be devoted to ASB every day from now until next January. But my one condition is I have to have one weekend for shopping. •Reason # 4: I have a crazy unique style and a matching personality. I have this large love for fashion for where I try to never wear the same outfit twice. •Reason # 3: I have been told I have an awesome moral compass and I am willing to make a difference by unifying the student body!! •Reason # 2: I’m not afraid to go up and talk to any adult or student at our school, about what is on my mind. Reason # 1: I love ASB and I really want to do this out of my heart. Nothing more.
2.) My poster is “I can do it” and the picture is of me being portrayed as an old women’s rights movement for when the women took the men’s job. Which is how I see it, since there hasn’t been a girl president yet.
President: Clayton Bishop
1.) “I believe I am unique because ASB and leadership has been a big part of my life. Starting in elementary school I was involved with student council and helping bring kids closer together. Moving onto middle school at Oak Crest, I was a part of the ASB class and in 8th grade became president of the class and overlooked many of the events there. And currently, I am in the ASB class at SDA and I am helping plan prom along with helping the other various events that ASB is putting on, such as the SDA Bazaar and the upcoming Winter Assembly. Aside from having a lot of experience in various leadership classes throughout my years, I believe I possess critical qualities that would make me qualified as president. I believe I am a very social person and if elected president I encourage people to come talk to me if they have any input they would like to share. I am also a strong communicator which is a very important trait if elected president. I will need to not only be able to talk with certain students but as well as teachers and other staff at SDA along with many businesses such as food vendors for events. That is why I feel I am a unique candidate for the elections.”
2.) “As far as a motto or a slogan, I don’t really have one. I am mainly just trying to emphasize having fun as well as getting things done. It goes without saying, being president of anything, whether a school, club, or any association, is a very serious job. But I also want to make it fun, not just for myself, but for the people around me and the students I work with. The events SDA puts on are very fun and enjoyable and I want to have fun not only watching the event happen, but also have fun planning it and make it memorable. So once again, not much of a slogan or motto, but I just want to have a good time and try to create an amazing year for everyone at SDA!”
Vice President: Genesis Castrellon
1) “Well I’m the only one running so I guess that makes me unique but also I really want to make a big impact in the school!! When I’m elected I really want to make the whole school involved. I want to have an event that will appeal to most everyone.”
2) (undesignated motto)
Secretary:Kendahl Hettick
Secretary: Brittany Pyle
1.) “I am a unique candidate because I have a lot of fresh new ideas I want to bring to ASB and I have a lot of enthusiasm that I want to use to help involve the entire school in all of our school events. I’m a very outgoing person and I want the student body to be comfortable coming to me and sharing their ideas on ways to improve our school.”
2.) “Vote Pyle she’s got style.”
Treasurer: Alec Smith
1.) “I really am motivated to run for office because I want to make a difference in the ASB class and the school in general. I’m so passionate about making SDA the best school that it can possibly be, and I feel that, if elected Treasurer, I can be a vital asset to ASB and SDA in general. I think my extraordinary leadership skills and my fiscal responsibility set me apart from the competition, and my heart is truly in the race so that I can make a difference and ensure that SDA remains the best school imaginable.”
2.) (undesignated motto)
Treasurer: Elizabeth Chapman
1.) “Because I’ve been involved in so many aspects of the school, I know that there are so many different types of people. And I think that it’s important to make sure it’s easy for everybody to be involved. So as treasurer, I’d make sure that there was an opportunity for everybody to express their individuality and do what they love.”
2.) (undesignated motto)
Senior Director: Hope Budman+Lauren Shumate
Hope-1.) “That I’m dedicated and want to achieve the goal of making great memories for everyone during their senior year. I will plan great Senior Java’s, Senior Olympics, and other senior activities.”
Lauren-1.) “I will take my responsibilities seriously and I will use my past experience with ASB to create fun events for SDA.”
2.) “Don’t be shy, give Hope and Lauren a try”
Senior Director: Ashlynne McLean
1) “When elected, I’m focused on bringing our senior class together to create a family bond. I want everyone to feel as though they are apart of their senior year. I’m open to every opinion or idea my classmates have for me and will take all into consideration. Mostly, I want to make this a year that not just I will enjoy, but more so the whole 2013 class will enjoy. This makes me unique because although I do have my own ideas, I still appreciate others.”
2) “VOTE ASHLYNNE, GET ACTION”
Senior Director: Amy Cordova+Monica Lundgren+Rachel Bernstein
1.) Amy- “Well I have been in the ASB class here at SDA a couple times before, so I know what responsibilities I will be taking on if elected senior director. And if elected I will do my very best to make sure that the class of 2013 has an unforgettable senior year. Also, a homecoming that everyone will enjoy, with the help of the other elected directors as well.”
2.) “Vote ARMS: Amy Rachel Monica for Senior Directors”
Junior: Junior Director: “Jeebus” Jesus Aguilar
1.) “I think I’m qualified for junior director because I’ve had experience with this sort of field, having been in ASB for quite some time; thus, I’ve dedicated myself into helping the school. Also, no offense, but ASB does not deliver what it’s supposed to do. They’re supposed to connect the students to the school; however I don’t see that. For dances they don’t ask the students what they want. So if I’m junior director, for Prom, I want to get ideas FROM the school… Not from our minds secluded within the walls of the ASB room. If ASB really wants to connect students to the school, what better way to feel connected than knowing you contributed to the making of an event. In our case, Prom.”
2.) “Challenge accepted”
Junior Director: Kirsten Walz and Mark Kaplan
1.) Kirsten- “Once elected I plan to listen to what the student body has to say and apply their suggestions as much as I can. In ASB you are representing the whole student body with one group of 30 or 40 kids, and that’s why it’s so important to listen to ideas from the outside and not just our own. I also plan to make the 2013 Prom awesome, new, and exciting, and I am going to try my best to keep the SDA vibe alive.”
2.) (undesignated motto)
Junior Director: Olivia Lancaster Brower
Sophomore: Sophomore Director: Arielle Michaelis+Reigha Tencer+Kennedy Anderson
1.) “We plan to put on a really cool formal for SDA for everyone to attend and enjoy.
2.) (undesignated motto) “Our main focus is on making formal a great event.”
