This year’s winter formal will be held at the Rueben H. Fleet Science center in Balboa Park. Sophomore, Amanda Godfrey took part in planning the dance with a budget just over $25,000. ASB raised the money mainly from ticket sales. “We are hoping to make a $13,000 profit to put towards future dances,” said Godfrey.
Godfrey explained the process of planning formal. “We find a location we feel everyone would have fun at. We have to meet with the owner of the venue and tour it. We then come up with a theme and our budget. Lastly, we meet with several DJ’s and choose which one meets our budget best and is the better DJ.”
The money went to the museum fee of $6,400, the DJ charge of $3,000, the IMAX movie showings of $2,000, and other expenses such as catering and security. Discount ticket prices were $39 with an ASB sticker and $44 without. After Jan. 21, the ticket prices went up to $44 and $49.
In addition to dancing, there will be a photo booth, Rock Band, IMAX movies, and the ability to tour the museum. “We have the entire museum to ourselves so students can go upstairs or downstairs or visit the snack bar and do whatever they want,” said Godfrey.
