San Dieguito Academy was required by the Sheriff to undergo a lockdown on October 22, 2010 at 12:00. According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the lockdown was a preventive measure due to a carjacker on the run from a traffic collision in 200 blk of Quail Gardens Drive, Encinitas. The Hispanic male suspect, after fleeing the scene, was suspected of carrying a gun. As a result, all schools nearby were lockdown for safety. The man was later found without a weapon and arrested for auto theft and hit and run. Mr. Grove stated that no imminent threat had been felt by the staff, since the fugitive was not actually on campus nor was he nearby. A few issues during the lockdown were that some students just recently returning from lunch were locked out of their classrooms, and P.E. and substitute teachers were difficult to notify via email.
