SDA Alumni Anoushka Shankar Performs for International Women’s Day
This year’s International Women’s Day will be commemorated by the song, “One Woman,” performed by over 20 artists and musicians from around the world. One of which is Anoushka Shankar, daughter of Pandit Ravi Shankar, the celebrated sitarist and local icon who passed away this December. An SDA graduate from 1999, Anoushka Shankar has become a musical artist in her own right, and recently lent her talents to the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women in their creation of “One Women.” The video hopes to raise awareness for gender equality around the globe. Shankar can be seen in the video around 20 seconds, and her distinctive sitar playing can be heard throughout. Watch here, or on the song’s official website: http://song.unwomen.org/
