It was a day of spells and charms as students wore their favorite Harry Potter clothing to school on Thursday Nov. 18. All around campus there were Harrys and Weasleys, professors and villains. Some dressed for fun and others dressed in anticipation of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1,” which opened at midnight.
“I really like the books, I was going to go to the midnight premiere but my parents said no, so I’m going the next day. I like to dress up because it’s really fun, which is why I’m Ginny Weasley,” said sophomore Neeloo Rahbari.
Others embraced the day because they wanted to celebrate the series that has been with them since childhood.
“It’s an awesome series and I’ve loved it since I was eight. I chose to be Professor McGonagal because she’s strict yet giving in the books and movies,” said freshman Samantha Hodges.
At lunch students participated in a costume contest and trivia game, and teachers came down for the festivities as well. The winner of the costume contest for students was senior George Stimson as Harry Potter, and for teachers, Stimson’s father, physics teacher George Stimson as Professor Snape.
“I like the books better than the movies because they are more detailed and you can use your imagination to picture the setting and stuff,” said Stimson, the student.
The day ended with a trivia game with magical students versus muggle teachers like Kerri Leonard, Darlene Blanchard, Michael Santos, and Erin Norton. Spanish teacher Sheryl Bode asked questions and the participants had to be quick to answer for the points. After everyone finished banging their hands on the tables to answer questions first, the scores were tallied and the students won 19-13.
