SDA Robotics Team Reaches Quarterfinals in Robotics World Championships
April 27, 2018
Team Paradox 2102 attended the first robotics World Championships in Houston, Texas, taking fourth place in qualification rounds and reaching the top 50 teams worldwide during the three-day event from April 19 to April 21.
In total, there were over 300 teams gathered at the George R. Brown Convention Center after qualifying by winning their respective regional competitions or receiving a recommendation award. The first two days of the competition were qualifying rounds, during which Team Paradox set a new personal record of 8-2-0, finishing fourth overall.
“That is the best our team has ever done considering we finished 59th in the previous year.” said Jenna Weinhofer, a junior on the team in an email.
Being within the top eight teams, Team Paradox was able to choose their alliance teams to compete with during quarterfinals; Team 364 (Fusion/Noodle Nation), Team 2046 (Bearmetal), and Team 6445 (CTEC Robotics.)
After winning their way through their first qualifying round, they lost at quarterfinals. However, the team returned home in high spirits after trading buttons and shirts with other teams as per usual.
“We were most definitely the loudest team in the stands. Many people, including myself, lost their voices at this exciting time.” said Weinhofer.
