Girls Lacrosse Number One in League
April 2, 2018
The SDA girls lacrosse team dominated Helix High School 12-4 Friday, making it the number one ranked school in the league.
The Mustangs came ready to play and started the game strong. Consecutive goals were made by senior Leah Haverkamp, and juniors Isabella Weaver and Erin Riley.
“We were really excited to play the number one [team] because we were at number two and we haven’t beaten Helix for three years,” said head coach Chuck Kaczmarek. “We were just so ready and we were probably over prepared. We worked really hard at practice and everyone really brought there A game.”
This game was more than just a win for the Mustangs; it was their first win against Helix in three years. “I am really happy, we came into it and we thought it would be a tough game because they’re number one and we are number two,” junior Gracie Williams said. “But we all put in our best effort and worked as a team. We were communicating a lot on defense and in our transitions we were always doubling and intersecting.”
The Mustangs dominated on defense and kept possession the entire game. “I think we did good, we made a lot of good passes and we did a lot of good defense,” said senior Lauren Hohmeyer.
“This is probably the best start ever for SDA,” Kaczmarek said.
SDA’s next game is tonight at 5:45 p.m. in Valley Center.
