Room for Improvement at the Elective Faire

February 9, 2018

As students prepared to sign up for their new electives, some courses were put on display at the elective fair Feb 9. The event took place in the math and science courtyard.

Some said the event was not as successful as they had hoped. “I’m a little disappointed in the attendance. I’m not sure if teachers are not allowing their students to attend the event or the students just don’t want to participate” said Scott Jordan, director of athletics.

Spanish teacher Sheryl Bode, who teacher advocated for the “Spanish cinema identities” elective was disappointed with the outcome of the elective fair and particularly the level of energy. “I think the elective fair is a good idea, but I wish it were a bit more intimate. It would be better if the area were a smaller space, that way we could play music and it would feel more exciting.” she said.

Despite the setback caused by poor attendance, the students running their booths persisted in attempt to gain members for new electives. Some even vouched for the importance of showcasing each class. “For freshman who aren’t sure what elective to take in the coming years it is a great opportunity to discover new classes. They might be able to find something they really like that they didn’t know they would enjoy before,” said junior Michael Sturman.

He also discovered a new class because of the elective fair. “I’ve decided to take AP Euro because of what I saw here,” added Sturman.
