SDA Basketball Comes Up Short
January 25, 2018
Senior Matt Turcotte buried a midrange jumper as time expired to give SDA a one point lead going into halftime Wednesday, but in the end SDA boys basketball fell to crosstown rival LCC with a final score of 53-47. The game had the most attendance of the season.
The Mustangs seemed to control the game until the third quarter, when a couple poor choices and turnovers gave LCC enough momentum to mount a 10-point lead. It seemed like the game would finish this way, but junior Alex Bright provided a much-needed defensive spark off the bench by blocking a few shots and hustling to grab rebounds, which got the crowd back into the game.
Midway through the fourth quarter, the Mustangs were tied with the Mavericks, but a couple untimely fouls slowed the game down and gave LCC free throws to take the lead back.
As the clock wound down, SDA remained within striking distance, but a dagger three by LCC senior Jackson Curtis gave the opposing team a comfortable advantage with little time left.
After starting league play with a 1-2 record, the Mustangs look to bounce back this Friday when they visit Canyon Crest Academy.
