Scavenger Hunt Brings Students Together

The bell rang and students dashed across the halls in search for erasable pens, middle school IDs, a dictionary, and many more in order to gain the success of their homerooms.

The annual Homeroom Olympics scavenger hunt had begun. Only this time, it had a twist: teachers were asked to dress like Physics teacher George Stimson. While not many teachers participated in this, those who did earned an extra three points for their homeroom.

Part of the Hunt included an additional three points if the representatives took a picture with a Stimson impersonator. There weren’t many that participated in dressing up, but a few homerooms did manage to use that as an advantage.

A few of the homerooms that participated in the hunt included PALs homeroom, Scott Huntley’s homeroom, Stephanie Siers’ theatre homeroom, Rie Tsuboi’s Japanese homeroom, and Jaime Duck’s homeroom. While the homerooms do show sportsmanship, there was a large amount of competitiveness as well:

“We all are a little competitive. If you’re not here to win, you’re here to lose,” senior Kathleen Brown from PALs homeroom said.

“I’d say [we were] pretty competitive. We don’t do all the activities, but when we get into one, we get hardcore about it,” senior Holly Teisher from Huntley’s homeroom said.

There were also a few struggles in the search for the items.

“[The hardest thing on the list was taking a picture with] Mr. Camacho because he was driving around on one of the carts and we couldn’t find him. He kept zooming away whenever we got close, but eventually we found him” Teisher said.

“[Finding] Goldfish and a dictionary was kind of random…we had to run way back. Running is the hardest part,” senior Sage Diehl from Jaime Duck’s homeroom said.

“The Freshman ID [was the hardest to find]…we kind of just stole somebody’s,” Brown said.

Overall, the activity had a positive response with the participants and brought them together:

“[It was] fun and kind of hectic” Brown said.

“It probably was the highlight of my day, especially because I got to see all these teachers that I haven’t seen in a while and running around getting all the stuff was fun. We told Ms. Lee that we needed to get a picture of her even though we didn’t. It was a really good excuse to get a picture of her,” Teisher said.

“It was really fun. It was fun meeting all the new kids that came in this year into our homeroom and running around campus, especially the new parts that I haven’t checked out a lot. Meeting new people and connecting with them [was fun],” Diehl said.
