The first day of school, in any grade, is notorious for embarrassing disasters and unlucky experiences. Contributors of The Mustang asked students for their craziest first day stories:

“On the first day of school,…I was waiting in front of the stairs for my friend after I got my schedule, and some kid ran into me and tried to push me down the stairs. I was kinda scared because I thought I was going to fall. But, I didn’t surprisingly….I think they thought I was their friend.” – Tessa Lee, Senior
“I was sitting in my college applications class, because I have it first period, and I was talking to Mr. Ross about how I had already applied to two colleges. Then I go to homeroom, and I open my email, and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh I just got into Portland State!’ Then I walked by Mr. Ross’ room on the way to second period and I was like, ‘Mr. Ross, I got into college!’ And he said, ‘See? This class is helping already.’” -Rachel Kaplan, Senior
“On the first day of school, I was in math class. The bell had just rang. I knocked over my new glass water bottle that then shattered and spilt all over the floor. The teacher was afraid to cut her hands so she had to call the janitor to clean up the mess.”- Natasha Gardiner-Feldman, Junior
“[The] first day of school last year, I ripped off part of my shoe in class and my teacher was like ‘Oh God, I Have to deal with this child for a WHOLE SEMESTER” – Mina Seif Asgari Barkosarai, Senior
“My sophomore year I walked into second year English with right after eating a spinach quiche on the way to school. So you can probably guess what comes next, I go through my first two classes and things are going smoothly. Well as smoothly as they can on the first day of school. Lunch time rolls around and I meet my boyfriend outside of his class. He looks at me and starts laughing. Like, laughing. Hard. There was spinach in my teeth. I don’t know why I was surprised”- Maddy Garcia, Junior
