Club Santos Brought Back for Homeroom Olympics
May 22, 2017
The Club Santos event at the PAC Thursday was the break every student needed after relentless weeks of AP testing. Homeroom Olympics took it upon itself to gift students and faculty with a chance to let loose their fun side, in correspondence with the upcoming wellness week.
Inspired by the club of a former teacher at the academy, named Club Santos after former SDA science teacher Michael Santos, the event was more similar to a disco party then a club event, as intended. Students were free to relieve their end-of-year stress through dance and song.
Serving as hosts, the theatre department offered the main stage for dancing and off to the side a juice stand for those who preferred to rest.
The atmosphere was much like that of the school dances, only on a smaller scale. Staying in the middle of the dance floor for too long could result in a similar case of heat exhaustion reminiscent of the homecoming dance.
Santos was present at the party, visiting from his new home at Torrey Pines where he is an assistant principal. He didn’t participate in the dancing, unlike other staff members such as Assistant Principal Jeanne Jones, but he did watch as the students danced their stress away.
