“Funny Business” at SDA
April 28, 2017
SDA’s theater program is gearing up for the opening night of its production of “Funny Business,” which is set to run from Wednesday May 3 to Saturday May 6.
The collection of six short, comedic plays is written by David Ives and Christopher Durang, and is being performed by SDA’s second period drama production class. Junior Rachel Kaplan is directing the production, and freshman Molly Buhaenko is stage managing.
Junior Madison Noyes plays the role of Robin in “Roll Over, Beethoven,” one of the six plays, and she is also the acting coach for the actors in “Wanda’s Visit.” “Each of the shows has an acting coach who is there to watch rehearsals and help with ideas for how to say certain lines, what we want to be the message and purpose behind and make sure it’s coming across that way,” Noyes said. “We also lead the individual show rehearsals and help the actors block their show. So we work closely with the directors to make sure the show is progressing and going the direction we want.”
Junior Riley Switzler says that his favorite part of the experience has been “getting to know and work with all the new people in the cast and crew. They’re a real fun bunch and they’re all very talented.”
