SDA’s winter assembly 2017 was today during homeroom. Students entered the gym to the music of SDA’s pep band. The assembly was hosted by Principal Bjorn Paige and senior Austin Dilley, who showed up dressed as each other.
Sophomore Lanie Weingarten kicked it off singing the national anthem. This was followed by a series of sports, clubs, and student life videos. In addition a short activity was dedicated to sports featuring players from SDA sports teams and SDA teachers.
Volunteers from different homerooms played an extreme round of musical chairs where students were asked to retrieve objects from the audience members before they were allowed to find a chair; at one point they were asked to switch with their homeroom teachers, and the game ended with theater teacher Stephanie Siers as the winner.
Since this is the assembly before Winter Formal, freshman Sofia Ledet asked freshman Kalvin Grensted to formal by leading him in a blindfolded activity. Dilley and Paige performed as the Blues Brothers with SDA’s band; freshman Shawlin Tuckers joined in at the end completing the performance.
As the assembly ended, current ASB President Zachary Kanzler gave SDA a farewell speech, since junior Josh Lim will be taking his place starting spring semester.
