This year, SDA has a new writing tutor, a former SDA student Laura Alguire. Having graduated in 2009, Alguire went on to major in physics at UC Santa Cruz after being influenced by SDA’s own physics extraordinaire teacher George Stimson. She found a passion for language in a linguistics course she took one semester, which persuaded her to switch majors to linguistics on her way to earning her degree.
Following her time at Santa Cruz, Alguire returned to Encinitas to work towards earning a teaching credential, where she’s been employed at various elementary schools such as Ocean Knoll and is still currently working at the after-school program at Park Dale Lane. On her way to earning her credential, she began shadowing English teacher Rob Ross at SDA, who informed her that the writing tutor’s job was available.
Alguire can now be found in the writing lab on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, helping students with assignments ranging from English essays to college applications. She hopes to soon earn her teaching credential and earn a job teaching at a local elementary school.
If you are a student in dire need of writing assistance, do not hesitate to pay Laura Alguire in the SDA writing lab a visit. Her hours are as follows:
Tuesdays: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
Wednesdays: 8:00 AM- 12:00 PM (Late start 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM)
Friday: 7:30 AM- 3:00 PM
