Chargers Column Week Five
San Diego seems to be stuck in a repeating pattern from week to week. The loss against the Oakland Raiders last Sunday has put the Chargers at 2-3. Besides Oakland now being tied with the Chargers in standings, the Raiders had a historical game. This was the first time since 2002 that Oakland has had such a large lead entering half time. Although Oakland won the game, after comparing each team’s stats, San Diego dominated in all aspects of the game. For instance, San Diego had a total yardage of 423 compared to Oakland’s 299 total yards. San Diego had everything going for them throughout the game, but an accumulation of little mistakes ruined it for the Chargers.
Week six will be one of importance for both San Diego and Oakland who are tied for 3rd in the AFC west standings. Whichever team moves up will then face the Denver Broncos and the Kansas City Chiefs who are both 5-0. However, earning a bump up in standings is more complex than it may seem. A win from one team does not guarantee the third place spot because if the other team also wins, it only prolongs the tie until the next week. So for fans of either team, you can expect both Oakland and San Diego to put up a fight this coming week.
