Chargers Column Week Two
San Diego’s performance was a huge improvement from the Sept. 15th game against the Texans. There was a significant difference in the consistency of performance throughout all four quarters.
San Diego scored a 35- yard field goal in the last few minutes of the game, allowing for a win against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Chargers were able to keep the score close with the help of San Diego’s running back, Ryan Mathews, who had 16 carries and provided the San Diego offense with 73 yards.
Another stand out performance from Sunday night’s game came from San Diego quarterback, Phillip Rivers, with an average 8.8 yards per pass and a total of 539 yards. Rivers threw zero interceptions and only two turnovers were given up.
The Charger’s new offensive coordinator has proven to both himself and other teams around the nation that San Diego can hold its own against the best of them. This coming Sunday, the Chargers face up against the 1-1 Tennessee Titans on Tennessee’s home turf. It will be an important game for both teams due to their tied standings (1-1).
Not only that, but all four AFC west teams won in week 2 of the NFL season. This has created stiff competition for the Chargers within their own division. If the Raiders, Broncos, and Chiefs continue to win, this could pose a problem for San Diego when playoffs come closer.
