“Pretty Little Liars” Winter Premiere
Warning: Spoilers Ahead
Once again, A put television’s four most famous liars in difficult, dangerous, and life-changing situations, all without revealing who is behind the mask.
The winter premiere of “Pretty Little Liars” aired on ABC Family last night, after a month of no new episodes. The premiere was titled “Through a Glass, Darkly,” and was the 14th episode in the series’ fifth season.
The episode’s opening scene was set at Mona Vanderwaal’s funeral, as her empty casket is carried out of the church. With Mona’s body still missing, Aria, Emily, Spencer, and Hanna are convinced that A/Alison is keeping the body somewhere.
Moments later, Alison walks up to the church and approaches Mona’s mother. Alison starts trying to tell Mona’s mother how she came to “pay her respects,” but Mrs. Vanderwaal cuts her off with a slap. Like Aria, Emily, Spencer, and Hanna, Mrs. Vanmderwaal is convinced that Alison had something to do with Mona’s murder.
As the episode continues, problems develop for each of the four girls. Hanna, who was the closest to Mona, decides that Mona’s body has to be found, and recruits Mrs. Grunwald (the psychic from Ravenswood) for help.
Spencer, who had been accused and arrested for the murder of Bethany Young, is out on bail, but is quickly put in a state of panic when she is told that Young’s family is going to succeed in overturning her bail.
Emily deals with the news of Paige soon moving to California under her parents’ orders, since Paige’s parents thinks Rosewood is too dangerous (which, after all the deaths that have occurred, is a pretty justified thought).
Aria has an encounter with Alison, and accuses her of being A. Alison tries to tell her that it isn’t true, that A is setting her up, but Aria doesn’t believe her. Later on, Aria is attacked by A (who is masked).
The episode’s main plot event happens when Spencer and Emily go to Mona’s house (the location of Mona’s murder) and try to plant evidence that Alison killed Mona. They hope that if the police think that Alison killed Mona, they may connect that to the murder of Bethany Young, which would get Spencer off the hook.
When Emily and Spencer get to Mona’s house, they find that they don’t need to plant evidence at all. Instead, they find a camera hidden in the vent planted by Mona. The camera was located right in front of where Mona was murdered, and filmed the entire thing. The police take a look at the camera, and what they find on it changes everything for Spencer and Alison.”
