Almost Human Not Even Almost Interesting
“Almost Human” begins with a bang . . . then limps along for two hours.

The year is 2048 and the world has barely changed. Sure, there are robots and some no-longer-impressive hologram computers but, past that, imagine our world. Place inside that world your average “cop plus random partner” plot and, voilà, you have “Almost Human.”
We have “gruff cop” (Karl Urban) partnered up with a robot with a heart (Michael Ealy). Over the course of the two episode pilot, our robot friend teaches gruff cop to recognize his feelings and appreciate other robots. Oh yes, reader, this Fox “original” is blatantly “I,Robot” without Will Smith’s abs and wit.
This time, though, we don’t even get a robot revolution – yet. Instead, the show follows the basic cop formula: bad guy does bad things, cop uses questionable methods to find him, then arrests him and from it all learns something about his/herself. The only overarching plot thus far is that a mystery explosion killed gruff cop’s partner and some vague “Syndicate” is doing some sort of evil deeds. Oh, and some supposed attraction between IT girl and cop man that, I swear, must be happening between shots because there sure isn’t romantic tension on screen.
If you are dying to see some future cop action, just go watch “I,Robot.” It’s shorter and has a humor that all of gruff cop’s quips seriously lack. Otherwise, move on; there is nothing new to see here.
