Schitt’s Creek Short Review: A Quarantine Comeback
A rundown on the resurgence of "Schitt's Creek"
January 23, 2021
“Schitt’s Creek” is the perfect show to watch when you look to escape reality a bit and laugh. It first aired in 2015, and the final episode aired in 2020, and since then, it has become more popular as an excellent show to watch during this pandemic.
The show stars Eugene Levy (Johnny Rose) and Daniel Levy (David Rose), Catherine O’Hara (Moira Rose), who you may recognize as the mom in Home Alone or the stepmom from Beetlejuice. The cast also includes Annie Murphy (Alexis Rose), Emily Hampshire (Stevie Budd), Noah Reed (Patrick Brewer), and many, many more.
This classic sitcom features the Rose family who has lost their fortune, house, and their livelihood, but luckily as a joke for David’s (Daniel Levy) birthday one year; his family bought him a town named Schitt’s Creek. The town is the only place they can call home, so they arrive, and it is clear this town is not even close to what the Rose’s had in their old life.
Slowly they understand that they are there to make enough money to leave and regain their old life. Watchers get to experience the daily struggles that the characters go through and try to accept that this is going to be their new life.
I feel like this show is extremely relevant to the times we are in. Just like the Rose’s, we have been tossed into an unfamiliar situation for a long time, and we don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. Just as the Rose’s had to learn how not to live the same lavish life like they used to, we have had to realize that we can’t do all of the things we used to do because now we are in a pandemic, but like the Rose’s we have found ways to feel connected to “our old lives.” I would recommend this Netflix show if you are looking for a good laugh and want to unwind from a long day, relax on your couch or preferred comfort area and enjoy.
