“Thoroughly Modern Millie” Preview
“Throughout Modern Millie” returns to the stage at SDA since the performance in the old theater almost a decade ago. The show is set to run Friday, Jan. 15, and will continue to run Jan. 16, 21, 22, and 23 at 7 p.m.
“Throughout Modern Millie” takes place in New York in 1922. The Broadway musical tells the story of a young girl named Millie (played by senior Jessica Morilak ) who leaves her home in Kansas to start a new life for herself in New York. She arrives in search of a wealthy man to marry for his money and not for love. Along her journey she encounters some conflicts and struggles to find resolutions.
This will be the second time SDA Theater performs this particular play. Some former SDA students are excited to see the play for the second time. “I loved the music the first time I saw it; it actually inspired me to join musical theater,” said SDA alumni Jayden Pratt. “I would love to watch the play at SDA again.”
This time around, the musical is a little more exciting to cast members due to the differences from previous plays. “Technically speaking we finally have a tech guy so if you see the set, it’s incredible. We have a lot more graphic designs so that’s really exciting,” said senior Rachel Dovsky.
The cast and crew have spent an enormous amount of time preparing for this production, which began the third week of school. “We have had late night rehearsals almost every day the last week after school,” said senior Joanie Strattman.
Tickets for “Thoroughly Modern Millie” are being sold for $8 for students and $15 for adults. They are being sold online at seatyourself.biz/sandieguito.
