Art Show Closes Tomorrow. Have You Seen It Yet?
January 12, 2017
A new art gallery show highlighting women, which is curated by four SDA juniors, Carolyn Knapp, Olivia Kaminski, Sarah Willes, and Darian Haseyama, opened last Friday. The four girls opened the gallery with a small gala where they provided food and music.
Knapp’s pieces consisted of portraits of women and whimsical scenes. The artist works mostly in paint and has recently dove into the art of layering paint and photo. Kaminski’s art consists of large-scale body portraits and film photography.
Willes’s art is surreal images created through a process of printmaking called etching. Haseyama creates fantasy scenes of girls exploring dreamlike worlds with acrylic paint.
While all their art is drastically different, this group created a cohesive show full of amazing art. In addition, they transformed the gallery space by hanging sheets from the ceiling, stringing fairy lights around the room, and placing a pedestal on its side in order to create a small bench for viewers to sit on and observe the artwork.
The gallery closes this Friday.
