SDA Students Display Confidence and in NCL Fashion Show
October 13, 2016
This past Sunday, four of our fellow SDA students rocked the runway at the annual 2016 National Charity League (NCL) Fashion Show. NCL is a mother-daughter organization for teenage girls in seventh through twelfth grade that serves to aid the community through active involvement in volunteer work. Traditionally, every sophomore girl has the opportunity to participate in the fashion show, during which she learns the values of hard work, determination, and confidence. Sophomores Meagan Glazier, Callie Hartzog, Alexandra Joelson, and Julia Lucero demonstrated their beauty, grace, and playful personalities during the hour-long show that exhibited clothing borrowed from local boutiques and designers, including Sun Diego, Mia Bell, Friar Tux, and Mabel’s.
When the show began, the girls stepped onto the runway in their personal choice outfits, Taylor Swift’s “Welcome to New York” blaring in the background. In this scene, the models were able to demonstrate their own personal styles, be it funky and out-there, or conservative and classy. Glazier wowed the audience with a fitted black dress belted off in the center paired with a white pearl necklace.
Joelson showed off her fun-loving personality in the second scene, featuring clothes from Sun Diego, when she strutted down the runway in a tan tank top and denim shorts, shopping bags in hand, smiling and laughing for the cameras. Her energy was unmistakable and was reflected by the loud cheers of fans in the audience as she stopped to pose.
Hartzog and Lucero shined the brightest during the final two scenes when they both wore cocktail dresses and were guided down the runway by male models. Hartzog showed an abundance of personality and confidence in the way she walked, while Lucero demonstrated grace and poise, both making a lasting impression on the audience.
The amount of work the girls put into creating the fashion show was obvious through their performance, and the energy of the crowd throughout was unreal. Glazier, Hartzog, Joelson, and Lucero not only proved themselves as models, but also as confident women unafraid to make a difference in the world around them. They demonstrate what it really means to be an SDA student, on and off the runway.
