Fear The Walking Dead: Season 2, Ep. 8-10
September 12, 2016
Since the dreaded mid-season break that AMC shows are known for has finally ended, “Fear the Walking Dead” is back in full swing. The spin-off to the hit series “The Walking Dead” has garnered a huge fan base in itself, and is already one of the most popular shows on AMC.
“Fear” has taken leaps and bounds from where it left off, and in only three episodes it has changed the scope of the entire show. All of the main characters have split up into three smaller groups, with the focus of each episode shifting between characters.
Ever since Nick abandoned the group because of their cruel actions toward others, he has been roaming the deserts of Mexico, alone. In the first episode, we see Nick struggling to make it through the intense heat. As he walks along the endless roads trying to find civilization and simultaneously avoid walkers, he returns to an old trick of his. He masks his scent by smearing zombie guts all over himself, and soon he is walking among the dead as they roam the barren landscape. Eventually, Nick finds help as he stumbles upon a thriving community. He quickly proves his worth and joins their ranks.
Madison, Strand, Alycia, and Ophelia all end up at a large hotel in Mexico in search of supplies and Nick. The hotel seems empty, but in a drunken act, Madison and Strand make a ton of noise and stir the large and dormant population of walkers that were hiding out of sight.
Upstairs looking for supplies, Alycia and Ophelia have a heart to heart about their odds of surviving, in which Ophelia shows a lack of faith, but Alycia remains optimistic. Soon, however, Ophelia disappears and Alycia is left to deal with the recently awoken zombies. Alycia meets a lady who has been living in the hotel since the outbreak, and together, they reconcile with Madison and Strand.
Travis and Chris are on their own as well, traveling through the desert and ravaged towns. This father and son duo broke off from the main group a little earlier, but they are just as ill-equipped as the rest of them. Chris’s rebellion from the family led to Travis having to chase after him to try and bring him back. We see classic father-son bonding as the episode opens, with Travis teaching Chris how to drive a car, however, when they run into a group of three young men on the road, Travis gets a bit nervous.
The three men are hospitable when they offer sustenance to Travis and Chris, but they are reckless, and Travis recognizes this right away. Chris, on the other hand, is intrigued by these men and wants to join their group. In an epic climax, there is a standoff between the five of them and a innocent farmer, in which guns are drawn. Travis tries to defuse the situation, however, shots are fired and Chris ends up being the one to shoot and kill the unsuspecting farmer.
This Sunday we will see what happens with all three storylines, as the heat is rising between the characters. Who knows what will go down, but be sure to tune into AMC at 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11 to find out.
