SDA’s Fashion Entrepreneur Club raised almost $600 at the 3rd Annual Spring Charity Fashion show in the gym March 8. Proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross to help support victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Student models struck poses to whistles and applause from the audience, donning formal wear from Mia Bella Couture, Ellie’s Tailoring, and Pink Soul Boutique, as well as SDA’s very own fashion designers. “It was such an amazing feeling to see my designs go from drawings on a piece of paper to clothes on the runway,” said designer sophomore Jacquelyn Teza.
Audience members were also invited into the spotlight to strut their stuff on the catwalk. “The catwalk was scary. It was so lit up that I couldn’t see anything and was worried I’d fall,” said audience member senior Alex Sweat.
The student band Decibella provided entertainment as well. “We did a café-esque performance. The close setting made the audience happy to interact with both the music and the models,” said lead-singer senior Elly Oltersdorf.
The audience was also able to participate in a raffle with prizes from sponsors Stone Flats, Rubio’s, HOME, Queen Eileen’s, Divinity Salon, Detour Salon, Flippin’ Pizza, and Photo Trax. Winners took home everything from free t-shirts to gift certificates for haircuts – even Assistant Principal Dr. Jeanne Jones took home free tacos.
Host Elliot Horen, senior, said, “I consider myself lucky to have been part of a show as entertaining and fun to host as the fashion show. [Fashion Entrepreneur Club President junior] Annie Smith did a wonderful job coordinating the event and all of the models looked lovely.”
Even those who just came to watch enjoyed the show. “It was really cool seeing the kind of talent we have at this school,“ said Sweat .
