With familiar characters like the all-powerful Gandalf and the greedy, manipulative Gollum, the long anticipated book adaptation has arrived with plenty of battle scenes, humor, and of course, adventure. Bilbo Baggins and his army of fearless dwarves encounter trolls, elves and goblins and wargs on their quest to reclaim their gold and treasure from the terrifying dragon Smaug. Bilbo undergoes many near death experiences as he goes from being a lonely hobbit to a hero and learns that there’s more to the world than his little cottage, even making a few friends and saving a few lives in the process. Nominated for three Oscars, including “Best Production Design”, “Best Visual Effects” and “Best Makeup and Hairstyling”, “The Hobbit” is not lacking in special effects or costumes. The cast provided a memorable bunch of characters who will make you laugh and wish the movie would never end.
