Mara Dyer has a shady past, with an accident that left her best friend, boyfriend and boyfriend’s sister dead. She remembers little from that night, and with constant flashbacks that may or may not be connected to that night, it’s sometimes hard for her to determine the difference between fiction and reality. Mysterious, creepy and engrossing, “The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer” by Michelle Hodkin will keep readers on the edge of their seats as they wait intently, anticipating what will happen next. When I first read the synopsis for this book, I was a bit uncertain; I thought it would be full angst and slightly depressing and hard to follow, with the flashbacks that occur throughout the book. And it was confusing at first, but then all the pieces fell together and it turned out to be an intriguing and unpredictable read. I felt like I was experiencing everything along with Mara.
As she tries to uncover her past, the truth about what happened that night, and the meaning of her hallucinations, Mara struggles with her feelings for a boy, Noah, who may have secrets of his own. If you want a unique, fast-paced read, then check out “The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer” by Michelle Hodkin, and read the highly anticipated sequel “The Evolution of Mara Dyer,” out Oct 23.
