A hyperactive Anne Hathaway and old fart of a James Franco were chosen to tag team the hosting of the 83rd annual Academy Awards on Sunday night.
When the designated hosts were revealed, people doubted that they would make for an entertaining couple. They were right—the hosting proved dull and uncomfortable.
Hathaway and Franco seemed like polar opposites, and contrasted awfully with one another throughout the show. Hathaway, who had a total of eight costume changes, often refused to leave the stage decently sans excessive cheering and clapping. The good news is that she was stunning in each of her get-ups (seven dresses, one custom Lanvin tuxedo in which she sang “On My Own,” and a lot of expensive diamonds).
Naturally, Hathaway in a tuxedo could mean only one thing: Franco in a dress? Yes, and a very unenthusiastic, drab Franco at that. I have a message for James Franco: turns out that not everyone gets to host the 83rd Oscars. Might as well pretend you’re having fun. Remember, it’s not jury duty.
