Playing table tennis with adult psychiatric patients and falling in love with the girl of your dreams. Wait what? That’s what happens when you’re stressed with the problems of being a teenager? …Actually, “It’s Kind Of a Funny Story.” A teenage boy claims he wants to commit suicide, but sadly the world just doesn’t care.
“It’s Kind Of a Funny Story” opened this month. This roller coaster of a movie had you laughing one minute and tearing up the next as you watched a teenage boy try to deal with the effects of depression.
Keir Gilchrist played Craig Gilner, a 16-year-old boy who admitted himself into a mental hospital for depression. Teen actress Emma Roberts gave an amazing performance as an extraordinary girl who had serious cutting issues.
Gilner was placed in the adult ward as the teen ward was undergoing renovations. He befriended an adult patient named Bobby, who was played by Zach Galifianakis from “The Hangover.”
The comedic-drama was slow at some parts but the audience was engaged. The movie is a great film to watch with your family to learn some valuable life lessons while having some laughs.
